Green Bourbon

Our Sustainability Mandate

The Bourbon Reserve is committed to implementing sustainability in its processes in several ways by focusing on energy efficiency, landfill reduction, sustainable sourcing, and community engagement. Here are our key initiatives to achieve this:

Green Rickhouse Initiative

Implement energy-efficient measures in rickhouses, such as LED lighting and smart monitoring systems, to reduce energy consumption. Explore the installation of solar panels and wind turbines, powering rickhouses with clean, renewable energy sources.

Water Stewardship Program

Introduce and support water-saving technologies and education throughout the process for internal as well as suppliers, including low-flow fixtures, rainwater harvesting, and drip irrigation for crops. Regularly audit water usage and set reduction targets, encouraging a culture of water conservation among staff and stakeholders.

Bourbon Roots Project

Commit to using sustainably-produced ingredients wherever possible, such as sourcing grains from local, responsible farmers and utilizing barrels from sustainable, responsibly-managed forests. Establish long-term partnerships with ethical suppliers to support a sustainable Bourbon supply chain.

White Oak Revival

Invest in white oak reforestation efforts in key regions to ensure the long-term availability of this crucial resource for Bourbon barrel production. Collaborate with conservation organizations and local communities to plant, protect, and maintain healthy white oak forests.

EnviroAware

Promote environmental education and awareness among employees and the local community. Organize regular workshops, seminars, and events that focus on environmental issues and provide practical solutions for individuals and businesses to adopt sustainable practices.

City Harvest Connection

Support and promote urban agriculture by partnering with urban farmers and community gardens, including promoting how community members can source ingredients locally where feasible, and providing resources to help these initiatives flourish. Encourage employee involvement in urban agriculture projects, fostering a sense of community and contributing to local food security and sustainability.
